The True Cost of QR Code Subscriptions

On the pricing pages we checked in October 2026, the entry paid plan at ten of twelve QR companies works out to between $60 and $120 a year on annual billing. QRForever is lower at $36 a year, and Flowcode is higher at about $300 a year. Higher tiers cost more: Uniqode Core is $49 a month billed yearly, and QR Code Generator Pro Professional is $49.99 a month billed annually.

What you are paying for is a redirect service. A dynamic QR code encodes a short URL, a server looks up the destination, and the scanner is redirected. Plans differ in how many codes you get, how long scan history is kept, and extras such as API access or custom domains.

The Lock-In Problem

When you create dynamic QR codes with a subscription service and print them on business cards, product packaging, or signage, you are creating a dependency. Those physical materials depend on the service continuing to operate your redirects.

What happens if you cancel, or a card payment fails, depends on the provider. As of October 2026, some say dynamic codes stop redirecting once the paid plan ends: Uniqode says codes become inactive if you cancel, QR Tiger says codes stop working once the plan expires, and Scanova says dynamic codes need an active subscription to keep working. Every business card, flyer, and product label with your QR code then shows a notice or error page instead of your content. Others are more forgiving: Flowcode and Bitly say existing codes keep scanning after a downgrade, and Hovercode, QRLynx, and QRCodeChimp keep a few codes live on a free plan.

Entry paid plans at the services we checked in October 2026 all include dynamic QR codes, with limits that range from 2 codes (QR Code Generator Pro Starter) to unlimited (QRForever Pro). API access, custom domains, single sign-on, and extra user seats vary by plan: Uniqode puts its API on Core and single sign-on on Business+, and Hovercode puts API access and team members on Business.

There are scenarios where a pricier enterprise subscription is justified. Large marketing teams that need API access, webhook integrations, team permissions, and white-label solutions may find value in plans such as Hovercode Business Plus ($99 a month in October 2026, with webhooks and multiple workspaces) or Uniqode's higher tiers.

Companies running high-volume campaigns with thousands of unique QR codes and complex analytics requirements may also need the scale and features of enterprise platforms.

For short-term projects where you only need dynamic codes for a month or two (a single event, a seasonal campaign), the 7-day free trial lets you test the codes first, and the affordable Starter plan keeps a single month inexpensive.

For everyone else (small businesses, restaurants, freelancers, marketers, individuals) the choice comes down to how many codes you need, what you pay per year, and what happens if you stop. Making the Switch

If you are currently paying a pricier QR code subscription, switching to Honest QR involves creating new dynamic codes and updating your printed materials. This is a one-time effort, so weigh the cost of reprinting against what you would save.
